The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said today that fair treatment of the European Union (EU) towards Turkey and support for the perspective of full membership will be of key importance for "opening new horizons in mutual relations".
He said this after a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, his office announced, Anadolia reports.
Erdogan pointed out that strengthening EU cooperation with Turkey "is a modality for successfully fighting the challenges they face at the regional level."
Von der Leyen congratulated Erdogan on his re-election as president.
