In the municipality of Darnetal near the city of Rouen in northern France, a curfew has been introduced for people under 16 years old in response to protests over the killing of a teenager by a police officer.
People under the age of 16 unaccompanied by a parent or legal representative will not be allowed to go out on the street between 21:00 p.m. and 06:00 a.m. until July 31, the BBC writes.
Since Tuesday, France has been rocked by violence, destruction and clashes between citizens and the authorities after the death of a teenager of Arab origin who was killed by a police officer during a traffic control because he refused to stop.
A large number of fires were caused, shops were systematically destroyed and looted.
Demonstrators clashed early this morning with the police in Marseille, while 56 people were arrested during the night, the police announced.
