The Russian Security Service (FSB) announced today that it foiled an assassination attempt on the Moscow-appointed governor of Crimea and accused Ukrainian security services of plotting to plant a bomb in his car.
"An attempt to assassinate Crimean leader Sergei Aksionov organized by Ukrainian special services has been thwarted," the FSB announced, as reported by Russian news agencies.
One man was arrested as part of the investigation. TASS reports that this is a Russian citizen who was recruited for this purpose by the Security Service of Ukraine.
The bomber did not have time to bring the criminal intent to an end, as he was detained when the explosive device was taken out of the hiding place, the FSB said, as reported by TASS.
Russia annexed Crimea in 2014.
