Russia's Kursk and Belgorod regions came under fire from Ukrainian forces across the border early today, regional governors said, adding that at least one person was wounded, Reuters reports.
"The attack on the city of Valujiki lasted more than an hour," Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
One woman suffered chest wounds from shrapnel.
Gladkov said Russian defense forces shot down three aerial objects, including a drone.
Ukrainian forces also fired Grad rocket launchers 12 times, he added.
At least eight private houses were damaged in the attacks.
Roman Starovoyt, the governor of Kursk Oblast, north of Belgorod and also on the border with Ukraine, said a school and a private house were damaged when the village of Tyotkino was opened fire, without specifying the nature of the attack.
Reuters could not independently verify the reports.
Ukraine almost never publicly claims responsibility for attacks inside Russia or on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine.
Both sides deny targeting civilians in the 16-month war that Russia launched against its neighbor in February 2022.
Explosions and attacks on Russian regions bordering Ukraine have occurred almost daily in recent months, with Russian officials blaming either Ukrainian forces or pro-Ukrainian saboteurs.
