The Greek authorities have ordered the evacuation of certain settlements in the west of Athens due to a large fire and strong winds that are igniting it.
The town of Lutraki, 80 kilometers from Athens, is one of the most threatened by the fire because the fire cut off the water supply to that coastal town.
The local fire department announced that the firefighters lost control of the fire in the evening of July 20 when the wind increased, and that since three days ago, 35 square kilometers of forests and bushes, rural properties and other agricultural areas have burned in the fire.
A state of emergency was declared on the island of Rhodes, where evacuation orders were issued for several mountainous areas.
The Fire Service of Greece intensified the extinguishing of the raging fire with planes that arrived to help from France and Italy.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced that the fire service and civil protection will be on standby due to the announcement that the heat wave will spread to most of the country.
Weather forecasts predict that temperatures in Greece could reach 45 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
