The Presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, together today greeted the citizens gathered on the occasion of their meeting not far from Saint Petersburg in Russia.
They also took photos with citizens on the square in front of the cathedral in Kronstadt, a city on an island opposite Saint Petersburg, Russian news agencies reported.
According to the Kremlin statement, Putin and Lukashenko visited the cathedral and the new Museum of Maritime History.
Putin and Lukashenko are talking today and tomorrow, which is their first meeting after the 24-hour June rebellion of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the owner of the private army "Wagner", which was then supposed to move from the occupied parts of Ukraine and from Russia to Belarus.
Lukashenko assured Putin that he was "holding" Wagner's members in central Belarus and that Minsk was "controlling" the situation.
"They are asking to 'go west' to Warsaw, Rzeszow... but of course I keep them in the center of Belarus, as we agreed," Lukashenko told Putin.
Putin announced today that he will discuss security "in the region" with Lukashenko, television reported.
