The military court in Moscow today sentenced the Russian-Ukrainian citizen Sergej Belavin to 22 years in prison for allegedly blowing up a railway on the orders of Ukraine last summer.
The court also imposed a fine of 800.000 rubles (about seven thousand euros) on Belava.
In the July attack in the Bryansk region, which borders northern Ukraine, a freight train traveling from Belarus was damaged as well as a railway line.
Belavin was convicted of terrorism and illegal acquisition, production, transportation and storage of explosives.
Belavin, who hails from the city of Slavyansk in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk province, carried out the attack on the railway near the village of Robchik on the orders of Ukraine's military intelligence service, Russia's Investigative Committee said.
The committee said Belavina was recruited by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense in 2019, after which he received training in Ukraine to participate in terrorist activities.
