British Prime Minister Theresa May said today that she plans to remain at the head of the Conservative Party until the next parliamentary elections scheduled for 2022. There were earlier rumors in the British public that Theresa May could resign in 2019, when Great Britain should officially withdraw from membership in the European Union (EU). "There is absolutely no basis" for such information, the British Prime Minister told Sky News. In another statement, she told the British television network BBC (BBC) that she does not intend to leave the head of the Conservative Party. "I am here for a long time. The key is that I and my government want, in addition to the promise of the country's exit from the EU (Brexit), to offer a better future for Great Britain," said Theresa May. The leader of the conservatives lost her popularity and authority after she lost the absolute majority in the parliament in the parliamentary elections on June 8. She called the snap election then in the hope of strengthening the majority the Conservatives have in parliament, but also their authority during the Brexit negotiations. That failure, as reported by Agence France-Presse, undermined her authority within the party as well, which was followed by calls for her to resign. The British Prime Minister is currently visiting Japan.
