An enemy drone was shot down over Moscow today, wrote the mayor of that city, Sergei Sobyanin, in the messaging application Telegram, reports Reuters.
He added that the remains of the drone fell northwest of the city center, without serious damage or casualties.
Russia's Defense Ministry said the Ukrainian drone was "jammed" (jammed) while flying to its target in Moscow, causing it to crash.
Jamming refers to the use of jamming signals to interfere with communication between the drone and its operator. Once a person jams a drone, they can force the drone to land in place, stopping any further movement, or to return to its initial location.
Reuters reported that the TASS news agency reported that Moscow's Vnukovo airport has reopened and is operating normally after a suspected drone flight led to the temporary closure of its airspace and the suspension of all flights.
TASS reported earlier today, citing regional governor Roman Starovoit, that two Ukrainian drones were destroyed by air defense on the approach to the Russian city of Kursk on Thursday evening.
Russian officials also announced in the previous days that Ukrainian drones that were heading towards cities in Russia had been shot down.
