The mysterious treasure of 120 gold bars found in a Swiss train, for whose owner the police searched in vain for almost four years, will be handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
As reported by Hina, in October 2019, the conductor found a plastic bag on the train between St. Gallen and Lucerne.
Inside was a package with the inscription "shipment of valuable ICRC items" - 3,7 kilograms of gold in the form of 120 smaller gold bars, according to a statement from the Lucerne state prosecutor's office.
Gold of 999,9 percent purity was sold on Thursday for around 56.000 euros per kilogram. The "treasure" that has not yet been handed over to the ICRC is worth around 210.000 euros.
Even after a long investigation, the authorities were unable to find the owner or connect the levers to any crime.
"Since the gold was in a package addressed to the ICRC, we can assume that the unknown owner wanted to hand over the gold to that organization. Therefore, the found package will be handed over to the ICRC," the announcement states.
The ICRC announced that it will accept the valuable gift.
