Mountaineers in Switzerland have reacted angrily to the theft of money from a donation box located on a mountain peak that is reached by one of the most difficult climbs.
The box, which collects donations for the club, which maintains the difficult climbing route at its own expense and guarantees safety assistance on dangerous sections, was located at 2.350 meters high on the route leading to the summit of the Daubenhorn.
An unknown assailant earlier this month broke open the box and stole the donations, estimated to be hundreds of dollars.
The metal box was embedded in a rock near the valley that climbers use to rest before conquering the summit, Hina agency reports.
The route to the Daubenhorn is considered to be the longest route in Switzerland and is marked K5, which means "extremely difficult".
The valley is reached after several hours of climbing with special equipment and techniques, said Patrik Grichting, a member of the board of directors of the association.
"Ordinary mountaineers cannot reach it," he explained.
"I wouldn't be able to climb with money that doesn't belong to me," he said, questioning the morality of such a person or persons.
The club wrote a message to the thief on Facebook.
"We do not wish any harm to the perpetrator, but we hope that his conscience will torment him every time he goes to the mountain and that for all time".
The club did not report the theft to the police because there is no hope that they will be able to identify the prints, but new donations are expected.
