The President of Poland appointed Prime Minister Morawiecki and his new government

The President of Poland Andrzej Duda today appointed former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and his government composed mostly of experts and second-tier politicians of the conservative ruling party Pravo i Pravda, which individually won the most votes in the elections on October 15 but remained in the minority in both houses of parliament.

The president entrusted the mandate to form the government to Moravjecki, even though the opposition so far has a comfortable majority of 248 deputies out of 460 in the lower house and 66 out of 100 senators in the upper house, a coalition agreement has been signed, portfolios have been divided in the future government, and Moravjecki and his government have no chance of winning confidence of parliament.

The leader of Law and Justice, Jaroslav Kačinjski, said that his idea was for this to be a government of experts, and from the old government, in addition to the prime minister, only the defense minister, a loyal man of Kačinjski's, Marijuš Blaščak, remains in his department.

"We are offering new faces and concrete proposals to the Sejm, the president and society. It would be good if the new government started dealing with concrete matters without being burdened. In the last eight years, when Pravo i Pravda was in power, we dealt with concrete matters and we did a lot, but the political war inspired by the Citizens' Platform in particular was an obstacle. We could have done more," Kacinjski told the Polish state news agency PAP.

The previous pro-European democratic opposition, the liberal Civic Coalition of the expected future Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the Christian Democratic Third Way of the Speaker of the Sejm Šimon Holovnja and the united Left, have to wait no longer than 14 days until Moravjecki has to ask for the confidence of the parliament.

When, by all accounts, he does not get it, the next prime minister is proposed by the parliament and the previous opposition has already agreed that it will be former Polish prime minister and former president of the European Council, Donald Tusk.

President Duda, aware that the government he is appointing today is only for 14 days, promised to appoint Tusk without delay, according to announcements from the presidential office, most likely on December 13, which would allow Tusk to arrive as the new prime minister at the European Union summit in December.

"I regret that Pravo i Pravda is unable to accept its defeat. It is a lack of seriousness and respect for citizens who have decided to hand over power to democratic parties. Abuse of the state for party goals - that is the trademark of Pravo i Pravda," he reacted. on platform X to appoint the government opposition official Pyotr Zgoželski.
