Presidential elections in Russia will be held on March 17, 2024, the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian parliament, decided today.
"This decision starts the presidential campaign" in Russia, said Federation Council President Valentina Matviyenko.
She added that the elections will be an important moment of "reunification" of the Ukrainian regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye, which Russia claims to have annexed.
The presidential election will be shortly after the second anniversary of the start of the Russian offensive against Ukraine, launched in February 2022.
