In Iceland, a volcano began erupting overnight after weeks of earthquakes in an area south of the capital Reykjavik, but the Icelandic Meteorological Institute said intense seismic activity could begin to stabilize.
About 4.000 people were evacuated from the fishing town of Grindavika on November 11 due to a significant accumulation of magma, and the nearby Blue Lagoon geothermal spa was also closed.
All roads around Grindavik are closed and are expected to remain closed for the next few days, police said on Facebook, adding that the population is not in danger.
"It seems that the power of the eruption, which started about four hours ago, is decreasing quite a bit," it was stated this morning on the website of the meteorological institute.
The new eruption of the volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula is the fourth in two years.
