Volcanic activity in Iceland has decreased, the meteorological institute there announced today, but also warned that new eruptions can be expected soon.
The eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula came after several weeks of intense earthquakes.
About 4.000 people were evacuated last month from Grindavik, the fishing town that was most at risk, the BBC reports.
There are no reports of anyone being injured, but there are fears that many houses could be damaged.
The Icelandic Meteorological Service announced that lava and volcanic gases are coming out of three vents, while there were five active previously.
However, there is a high probability that more holes will open along the original rift in the future.
Smoke can also be felt in places about 30 kilometers away from the eruption site.
