Russia launched 90 drone attacks in the hours before the New Year, and Ukraine's air defense systems destroyed 87 of them, the Ukrainian Air Force said on the Telegram messaging application, Reuters reports.
That agency also states that the Ukrainian army announced today that Russia's attack on the city of Odessa during the night was aimed at the port infrastructure and that a fire broke out at one of the port terminals.

"They say that as you welcome the New Year, you will live the year. Well, this year Ukraine will break this rule: we will persevere and we will win," said Trukhanov.
Regional Governor Maksim Kozicki said that Ukraine's air defense systems are engaged in repelling attacks by Russian drones on Lviv, Reuters reports.
The agency also said that officials in the western Ukrainian region of Lviv, which borders Poland, said that a Russian airstrike at the beginning of the New Year damaged a university building in the city of Dubliani and damaged a monument to the commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) in the 1940s on the outskirts of the city of Lviv.
Ukraine's air force said the Russian airstrike also targeted Mykolaiv and Dnieper regions.
Reuters reports citing a local official appointed by Russia that four people were killed in today's Ukrainian shelling of the city of Donetsk.
"Thirteen people were also injured in heavy shelling by Ukrainian forces in the center of Donetsk," wrote the Russian-appointed head of the greater Donetsk region of which the city of Donetsk is the administrative center, Denis Pushilin.
Reuters could not independently verify the Russian and Ukrainian reports. Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
