Russia and Ukraine exchanged hundreds of prisoners of war today, based on an agreement reached through the United Arab Emirates.
The Ukrainian authorities reported that 230 Ukrainian prisoners of war had returned home.
The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that 248 Russian soldiers are no longer detained in Ukraine.
According to that ministry, the agreement was reached thanks to the mediation efforts of the United Arab Emirates.
This mass exchange of prisoners is not the first, and there have already been several during the war, which has been raging between Russia and Ukraine for almost two years.
Moscow said today it shot down 12 missiles fired at southern Russian regions bordering Ukraine.
AP assesses that Kiev is trying to humiliate the Kremlin and undermine Russian President Vladimir Putin's claims that life is going on normally in his country despite the war that began 22 months ago with the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
In the Russian border town of Belgorod, which has been shelled twice since this morning, the situation remains "tense", said the governor of the region of the same name, Vyacheslav Gladkov, via the Telegram platform.
"The anti-missile systems worked," he said, promising to provide additional information on possible damage after visiting the field.
