Representatives of more than 80 countries gathered today in Davos, Switzerland, with the intention of forming a common platform on the peace plan for Ukraine, proposed by its president Volodymyr Zelensky. The Swiss co-organizers of the meeting admitted that it is still far from being possible for Russia to join such talks.
National security advisers from 83 countries participated in the fourth round of discussions, based on Zelensky's 10-point proposal for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, almost two years after the start of the Russian invasion. The talks were co-chaired by the Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian President Andriy Yermak and the Swiss Minister of Foreign Affairs Ignacio Kassis.
They were held in the luxury ski resort of Davos, in eastern Switzerland, ahead of the start of the five-day summit of the World Economic Forum, which brings together the world's economic and political elite.
Kassis said that representatives of 83 nations came to Davos to discuss peace, ways to achieve peace in Ukraine, but also in other countries where there are conflicts.
"We will have to somehow find a way to include Russia. There will be no peace if we do not give Russia a word. But that does not mean that we should wait for Russia to do something. Every minute dozens of civilians in Ukraine are killed or injured. We have no right to wait forever ", added the Swiss minister.
Three meetings at the level of National Security Advisers were held in Copenhagen in June 2023, Jeddah in August and Malta in October 2023.
Kasis emphasized the importance of the participation in the negotiations of Brazil, India and South Africa, which are located next to Russia within the BRICS group.
"Their participation is very important because they have a dialogue with Moscow and maintain a certain degree of trust," Kassis said.
Talks in Davos focused on the criteria used to determine the end of the conflict, the withdrawal of Russian troops, justice for crimes committed and the prevention of new tensions.
