Switzerland agreed today to host a global peace summit on Ukraine at the request of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Neutral Switzerland has previously acted as a mediator to resolve the conflict and could now help find a solution to the war that began with Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
"At the request of the Ukrainian president, Switzerland has agreed to host the summit on the peace formula," the Swiss government announced. "Now other details are being worked out," they added.
At the joint press conference with his Swiss colleague Viola Amherd, Zelenski did not give an extensive list of the participants of the planned peace summit, but he indicated which participants he wanted, writes Hina.
"We are open to all countries that respect our sovereignty and territorial integrity at the peace summit, so draw conclusions about who we will invite," Zelensky said.
"We would like the global south to be present... It is important for us to show that the whole world is against Russia's aggression and that the whole world is for a just peace," he added.
Neither Zelenski nor Amherd gave any details on when or where the summit might take place in Switzerland. They noted that their teams will begin organizing the summit on Tuesday.
Zelensky is in Switzerland, and he is supposed to meet with other world leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
