The Turkish Official Gazette announced today the agreement on Sweden's accession to NATO, and it is the last technical step in the ratification of Sweden's bid by Turkey to join the Atlantic alliance.
That announcement came two days after the vote in the Turkish parliament.
Sweden's candidacy was approved by a large majority in the Turkish parliament. 287 Turkish MPs voted for Sweden's membership, 55 were against and four abstained.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has already signed the document, which means that Turkey has taken all the necessary steps.
The last country to ratify the agreement is Hungary.
Sweden, which is on the verge of becoming NATO's 32nd member country, submitted its candidacy in May 2022, at the same time as Finland, which was accepted last April.
