About 20 European leaders will gather in Paris today to send a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin about European resolve on Ukraine and counter the Kremlin's narrative that Russia will win the war, now in its third year.
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, invited his European colleagues to the Elysée Palace for a working meeting announced at short notice due to, according to his advisers, "the escalation of Russian aggression in recent weeks", reported Reuters.
"We want to send a very clear message to Putin that he will not win in Ukraine," the adviser to the French president told reporters at a briefing.
The conference should be attended by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, British Foreign Minister David Cameron, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, as well as the leaders of the Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
The US will be represented by the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O'Brien, and Canada by Defense Minister Bill Blair, reports Al Jazeera.
