The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, today welcomed the issuance of warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for two Russian commanders, who are accused of war crimes related to the bombings in Ukraine.
"Any Russian commander who orders attacks on Ukrainian civilians and important infrastructure must know that justice will come to him," Zelensky wrote on the X social network.
The ICC announced earlier today that it has issued arrest warrants for a lieutenant general of the Russian armed forces and an admiral of the Russian navy, for alleged war crimes committed in Ukraine.
The court "issued arrest warrants for two persons, Sergej Kobilach and Viktor Sokolov, in the context of the situation in Ukraine for alleged crimes committed between October 10, 2022 and March 9, 2023."
In the spring of 2023, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, due to his alleged role in the deportation of children.
