A volcano on Iceland's Reykjanes peninsula erupted on Saturday for the fourth time since December, prompting the evacuation of local residents and the declaration of a state of emergency.
It is believed to be the strongest eruption since December, and lava has reached the eastern defense walls around the evacuated town of Grindavik, local media reported.
People were also evacuated from the popular tourist spot, the Blue Lagoon spa center.
For now, the airspace over Iceland is open, according to the BBC.
The previous time the volcano erupted in early February, which led to the interruption of central heating for 20 thousand people, while the lava destroyed roads and pipelines.
Icelandic authorities have begun building dikes to divert burning lava flows away from homes and critical infrastructure.
This is the seventh eruption in the Reykjanes area since 2021.
There are more than 30 active volcanoes in Iceland.
