Three people were killed and one was injured in an avalanche in Zermatt, one of the most popular skiing and hiking centers in Switzerland, according to the cantonal police of Valais.
According to her statements, published on the X social network, the avalanche occurred the previous evening, and the search was suspended this evening.
Heavy snowfall and very strong winds have prompted authorities to warn of a significant risk of avalanches in the alpine regions of southern Switzerland.
"Very large, and sometimes extremely large, spontaneous avalanches are expected," the Snow and Avalanche Research Institute (SLF) said.
This winter, 14 people, mostly ski racers, lost their lives in avalanches in Switzerland, according to a report published by SLF on March 27.
