After the convincing victory of the opposition in local elections in Turkey, the question is whether this is the beginning of the end of the rule of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his party.
The main opposition Republican People's Party triumphed in the biggest cities, winning the most votes at the national level. Citizens are primarily dissatisfied with the economic situation, as inflation has reached 67 percent.
Thus, on the issue of economic improvement, on which he came and strengthened the government, Erdogan is now losing support. However, Erdogan should not be written off too soon. As president, he holds the key levers of power.
He showed an enviable power of survival: from 1998, when he was in prison, until the coup d'état in 2016. The opposition faces a not easy task to capitalize on the victory at the local level and at the national level.
Therefore, the real political struggle for supremacy in Turkey is yet to come.
