The debate on Kosovo's request for membership in the Council of Europe and the vote on the draft opinion will be among the most important points of the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which begins today in Strasbourg and will last until April 19.
On March 27, the PSSE Political Committee adopted a draft Opinion on Kosovo's request for membership in the Council of Europe, which that body will express its opinion on at the plenary session tomorrow, April 16.
Among other topics, during the PSSE session, a joint debate will be held on "the death of Alexei Navalny and the need to oppose the totalitarian regime of Vladimir Putin and his war against democracy", with the intervention of Yulia Navalny, according to the announcement.
It is added that the topic will also be "the arbitrary detention of Vladimir Kara-Murza and the systematic persecution of anti-war demonstrators in Russia and Belarus".
The PSSE will discuss support for the reconstruction of Ukraine, including a proposal to use frozen Russian state assets for this purpose, with the participation of the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk.
An urgent debate was requested regarding the "draft Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law". There will also be a debate on "the role of the Council of Europe in preventing the humanitarian disaster in Gaza".
PSSE will also discuss the protection of children from violence on the Internet and hold a joint debate on the relationship between the majority and the opposition in a democratic state and on good practice in referendums.
The Assembly of the Council of Europe will discuss compliance with Albania's obligations with a proposal to end the full supervision of that member state, the statement added.
It is stated that the agenda will be determined on the first day of the session.
