French President Emmanuel Macron spoke again about the possibility of sending Western troops to Ukraine, with the assessment that the question should be raised whether Moscow will break through the front lines and whether Kiev has made such a request.
"If the Russians were to go and break through the front lines, if there was a Ukrainian request, which is not the case today, we should legitimately ask ourselves the question (of the participation of Western troops in the fighting)," the French president told the British weekly The Economist.
In an interview published today, Macron said that he should not reject this possibility a priori, France Press reports, recalling that NATO countries initially ruled out sending tanks and planes to Ukraine, but later changed their minds.
"As I have already said, I am not ruling anything out, because in front of us is someone who is not ruling anything out," added the French head of state.
"I have a clear strategic goal: Russia cannot win in Ukraine." If Russia wins in Ukraine, we will no longer have security in Europe," warned Macron and asked who could say that Russia would stop there.
