Thousands of people demonstrated today in 50 cities across France against the "transphobic offensive" - against the rights of transgender people.
The reason for their dissatisfaction is the report on the "transidentification of minors" made by the political right-wing group Republicans in the Senate, the lower house of the French parliament.
Associations condemn the publication and promotion of the book "Transmania", whose authors present it as "an investigation into abuses of transgender identity".
Dissatisfaction was fueled by the bill of the MPs of the extreme right-wing National Gathering party, whose purported goal is to "protect minors from certain medical and surgical practices" to which people who want to change their gender are subjected.
"We have to stand up against the laws of the extreme right and the right and various (sex change) therapies that are horrifying," Lauren Joseph said at a rally with an LGBT community flag in hand.
A French advertising company has removed advertisements for the book "Transmania" from the streets of Paris at the request of city authorities, who consider it unethical.
"Anti-patriarchy, anti-capitalism, solidarity with trans people everywhere in the world!" - chanted the participants of a gathering of several thousand people in Paris.
During the weekend, in addition to Paris, rallies were held in 49 cities, including Lyon, Marseille and Montpellier. There were also protests in Belgium - in Brussels and Liège, the organizers said.
