French President Emmanuel Macron will lead the ceremony marking the 79th anniversary of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany on May 8, 1945 in Paris today, French media reported.
This year's Victory Day will be marked with increased security throughout France, because during the day the Olympic torch will arrive in Marseille ahead of the Olympic Games that will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
According to the program, Macron will first bow to the monument, the statue of General Charles de Gaulle, and then, accompanied by the Republican Guard, he will walk along the famous Champs-Élysées avenue to the historical monument of the Arc de Triomphe, online television BFMTV reported.
The French president will rekindle the flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Hero at the Gate.
"Bells for the Dead" will be sounded, followed by a minute of silence, then the French Army Choir will perform the anthem "Marseillaise".
The Paris Police Prefecture had previously introduced special security measures as Victory Day is celebrated across France.
The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Gabriel Atal, Minister of Defense Sebastien Lekorni, as well as the military leadership.
Macron will travel to Marseille later today for a ceremonial welcome of the Olympic flame.
