The head of French diplomacy, Stefan Sežurne, assessed today that it is not yet the right time to recognize the state of Palestine, because the conditions for such a decision to affect the solution in the Middle East according to the model - two states - Israel and Palestine have not been met.
Recognizing a Palestinian state "is not a taboo for France", but Paris believes that "the conditions have not yet been met for this decision to have a real impact on the process aimed at a two-state solution", Sejourne told France Press.
"That decision must be useful, that is, it must enable a decisive step forward on the political level. In such a perspective, one must intervene at the right time," said the French minister.
Sežurne, who spoke today in Paris with his Israeli colleague Israel Katz, said that "it is not only symbolic or a question of political positioning, but a diplomatic tool in the service of solving problems, so that two states that are next to each other, live in peace and security".
In the midst of the war in the Gaza Strip between the radical Islamist movement Hamas and Israel, today Spain, Ireland and Norway announced their coordinated decision to recognize the state of Palestine in the hope that other countries will do the same.
