Former Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda was re-elected today in the second round of presidential elections, according to partial official results, while his opponent conceded defeat.
The Election Commission announced that Nauseda received 76 percent of the votes, after counting 80 percent of the ballots.
His rival, Prime Minister Ingrida Simonita, said she "congratulates the elected president of Lithuania".
The Lithuanian people "entrusted me with a mandate of trust and I am aware that I will have to appreciate it," Nauseda (60) told reporters in Vilnius.
Nauseda is a former banker, a member of the center-right who, during his first term, established himself as a pro-European statesman and staunch defender of Ukraine.
Lithuania's president runs defense and foreign policy, and attends European Union and NATO summits, but must consult with the government and parliament to appoint top officials.
