Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Olongren said today, after a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Singapore, that Kiev can use Dutch F-16 planes to target Russian territory.
Olongern spoke with Zelensky on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore, Ukrainian portal Freedom reports.
In an interview with the Politico portal, she said that the Netherlands will not impose "Belgian-style" restrictions and that when Ukraine receives weapons, "it has the right to use them as it wishes."
"For the Netherlands, the only condition is that Ukraine's actions must be in accordance with international law and the right to self-defense as stated in the UN Charter," the minister stated.
Earlier, Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre De Croix stated that 30 Belgian F-16s must be used only on the territory of Ukraine, as previously agreed in the bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and Belgium.
In an address to a security forum in Singapore that gathers more than 500 delegates from around 40 countries earlier today, Zelensky invited leading military officials to participate in the upcoming summit in Switzerland and said he was disappointed that some countries had not yet committed to coming.
The United States of America (USA) previously allowed Ukraine to use American weapons to attack targets in Russia, but only near the border with the area around the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
