French President Emmanuel Macron today called on moderate parties of the left and right to regroup in order to defeat the far right in the parliamentary elections.
He addressed the nation today for the first time since he dissolved parliament and called early parliamentary elections after his party suffered a heavy defeat in the European Parliament elections.
He pointed out that he wanted "men and women of good will who were able to say 'no' to extremes to come together so that they could build a common project" for the country.
Voting will take place in two rounds on June 30 and July 7.
In the elections for the new convocation of the European Parliament, the far-right, xenophobic and Eurosceptic National Gathering party got the most votes in France, while the parties around Macron's centrist, liberal Revival party were in second place.
