The leaders of the 27 countries of the European Union (EU) have not reached, as stated, "at this stage", an agreement on the key functions of the European institutions, said the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, after the informal summit in Brussels.
"There is no agreement at this stage," Michel told reporters last night, adding that a decision is expected at the regular summit at the end of June.
"It is our joint responsibility to make a decision by the end of June," said Mišel.
The European twenty-seven gathered last night in Brussels to evaluate the results of the recently held elections for the European Parliament and to begin the process of distributing the main functions of the Union.
In the elections held from June 6 to 9, the European Parliament "moved" to the right and major blows were dealt to the leading pro-European ruling parties in Paris and Berlin.
At the meeting in Brussels, support in principle for Ursula von der Leyen for a new mandate at the head of the European Commission was reiterated.
EU leaders will continue negotiations until the summit on June 27 and 28.
