A court in Belarus sentenced in absentia to 20 years in prison Franak Viachorka, an opposition leader who lives in exile.
The court in Minsk adopted the verdict on June 20, after finding Vyachorka, an adviser to the leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tihanovskaya, guilty of high treason and insulting the President of the country Alexander Lukashenko.
Vjačorka lives in Vilnius, the capital of neighboring Lithuania, where many Belarusian oppositionists have fled, including Tihanovskaya.
They fled the country after Lukashenko suppressed mass civil protests in 2020, organized in response to his disputed election victory.
