The Russian Defense Ministry announced today that it destroyed 50 Ukrainian drones in the Russian regions of Rostov and Krasnodar, as well as in the southern Ukrainian region of Zaporozhye, which Moscow claims to have annexed.
"During the night when the Kiev regime tried to carry out terrorist attacks on the Russian Federation, Russian anti-aircraft defense destroyed 14 drones in Krasnodar territory, 26 over Zaporozhye region and ten over Rostov," the Ministry of Defense said via Telegram.
Although Moscow claims to have annexed the Zaporozhye region in southern Ukraine, the Russian military does not fully control the region.
The previous day, two people were killed in Russian strikes in the Zaporozhye region. Zaporozhye is regularly the target of Russian attacks, and in one attack at the end of June, seven people were killed and 40 wounded.
On Wednesday, eight people were wounded in an attack by Ukrainian drones on the substation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which was occupied by Russia, the Rosatom Group reported, indicating that the number of Ukrainian attacks is increasing.
The Russian military has attacked Zaporozhye and neighboring cities multiple times since the start of its offensive into Ukraine in February 2022, but in recent weeks it has concentrated its efforts in the east of the country rather than the south.
