A power plant in Russia's western Orel region and an infrastructure facility in Voronezh were damaged early Monday, regional officials said, while Russia's Defense Ministry said air defenses had destroyed 39 Ukrainian drones.
Governor of Oryol Oblast Andrey Klichkov said that the power plant was damaged by the remains of two drones, Current Time, a Russian-language media project run by Radio Free Europe (RSE) in cooperation with Voice of America (VOA), reported.
The governor of Voronezh, Aleksandar Gusev, said that the communal infrastructure was damaged in Gazoprovod, also due to the fall of drones.
19 drones were intercepted over Kursk Oblast, nine were shot down over Belgorod, three over Voronezh, five over Bryansk and three over Leningrad Oblast, the Ministry announced on Telegram.
Earlier on Saturday, the Russian authorities announced that they had destroyed 19 drones in the Kursk region, where a fire broke out in an oil warehouse.
Firefighters are still trying to put out the fire at the oil warehouse, which was caused by a Ukrainian drone strike on Saturday night, Kursk Oblast Governor Andrey Smirnov said.
He said that the attacks caused minor damage to several residential buildings. Russian officials rarely reveal the full extent of the damage caused by the Ukrainian attacks.
Ukraine considers Russian energy infrastructure a legitimate military target and began targeting it in early 2024. Ukraine makes extensive use of long-range drones, which are virtually the only weapons capable of hitting military facilities deep inside Russia.
