Radical Islamic preacher Anjem Cudari was today sentenced to life imprisonment in Great Britain for coordinating a terrorist group after he was found guilty a few days ago as a member of the banned organization of the radical Muslim group al-Muhajiroun (ALM).
Judge Mark Wall said Cudari was "the center of a terrorist organisation" which "encouraged young men to engage in radical activities".
In 2010, the British government banned ALM as a group engaged in the preparation or promotion of terrorism.
The prosecutor said Cudari had a "twisted way of thinking" and said he took over as head of ALM after Omar Bakri Muhamed, the group's founder, was in prison in Lebanon from 2014 to March 2023.
Choudari, who was previously convicted of supporting Islamic State, denied promoting ALM through his preaching, saying ALM no longer exists.
According to the terms of the sentence, Čudari must be in prison for a minimum of 28 years.
Prosecutors said the group operated under many names, including the New York-based "Society of Islamic Thinkers." That society was the US branch of ALM, the New York police said.
Choudari was convicted along with one of his followers, Khaled Hussein, who prosecutors say was a dedicated supporter of the group.
The two were arrested a year ago at Heathrow Airport in London.
