The unemployment rate in Italy started to rise again and in June it was 7 percent, the National Institute of Statistics (Istat) announced today.
The unemployment rate of young people aged 15 to 24 also increased to 20,5 percent, which is a very high level for that country, AFP estimates.
In June of this year, the number of people looking for work increased by 23.000 persons, or by 1,3 percent. The female unemployment rate increased to 8 percent and is much higher than the male unemployment rate, which remained stable at 6,2 percent.
The increase in the unemployment rate was accompanied by a slowdown in economic activity in Italy in the second quarter.
On the other hand, Italy recorded a growth of gross domestic product (GDP) by 0,2 percent in the second quarter compared to the previous one.
