Several Ukrainian civilians were killed in Russian shelling and drone attacks, Ukrainian officials announced on August 1.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, once again appealed to the allies to allow the use of weapons, which were supplied to Ukraine by the West, for attacks on military targets inside Russia.
In an interview with French media, he said that the most important thing is for allies to allow Ukraine to use long-range missile systems to destroy military targets deeper inside Russian territory.
"We hope with all our hearts. Unfortunately, our partners are afraid of it, but they must understand that we live and fight," Zelensky said, stating that the lack of permission to attack targets inside Russia was one of the main reasons why Russian forces continued to advance in eastern Ukraine.
He also said that Ukrainian forces need more Western weapons to be ready to replace what they have been fighting with so far.
"We need additional resources for air defense, in order to prevent their planes from striking our territory. It is difficult to fight them in the air. That is a fact. Their fleet is bigger than ours," Zelensky said.
