Clashes broke out today in several cities in Great Britain, where demonstrations with anti-immigration and anti-Muslim slogans were organized, and the fiercest were in Liverpool, in the northwest of England.
Demonstrators in that city threw chairs, bricks and other objects at the police, reported Agence France-Presse from the scene.
Local media reported that violence broke out in both Manchester and Belfast.
British Prime Minister Kir Starmer said there was "no excuse for violence".
Starmer, who came to power a month ago, held an emergency phone meeting with chief ministers and "reiterated the government's support for the police to take all necessary action to keep the streets safe," an unnamed British government spokesman said.
