Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy today congratulated the armed forces on the attack on military targets inside Russia, especially those that were carried out on airfields and fuel depots.
"I would like to thank every one of our soldiers and everyone who works in our defense industry for striking Russian airports, oil refineries and logistics facilities," Zelensky said in a daily address, adding that "every attack of this type brings Ukraine closer to the end of the war."
Ukrainian forces have carried out several airstrikes on Russian territory, or territory controlled by Moscow's forces, saying the attacks are in response to the bombardment Ukraine has suffered since the start of the Russian invasion more than two years ago.
Ukrainian sources close to the security forces told the French Press earlier today that drones attacked the Morozovsk airport in the Rostov region, destroying an ammunition depot.
Russian officials have not responded to claims of an attack on the airport, but local governor Vasily Golubev wrote on Telegram that authorities had imposed a state of emergency in Morozovsky District.
Ukrainian sources stated that its forces also hit a fuel depot in the Kamensky district of the Rostov region, where the Russian authorities had previously announced that an oil tank had been set on fire in a drone attack.
Zelensky once again called on his allies to lift restrictions and allow Ukraine to use Western weapons for attacks on Russian territory.
