The Ukrainian military reported that it had sunk a Russian submarine in the Black Sea and hit an airport in Russia in the past 24 hours, while the Russian side said that Ukrainian drones had hit a residential building, killing one person.
The spate of such attacks came after Ukraine pressured its allies to allow it to use long-range missiles to strike targets deep inside Russian territory.
Western allies, especially the United States of America (US), have so far resisted, fearing an escalation of the conflict.
"Ukraine hit a Russian Kilo-class submarine and an S-400 anti-aircraft missile system on the Crimean Peninsula," the General Staff said in a statement on Sunday.
The anti-aircraft defense system was installed to protect the bridge in the Kerch Strait, an important logistics and transport hub for the supply of Russian forces, AP reminds.
The General Staff also claims that Ukrainian forces attacked the Morozovsk airport, in the Rostov region, after launching a major drone attack on Russia.
According to their claims, ammunition warehouses, where guided aerial bombs were located, were hit.
Meanwhile, Belgorod Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said a woman was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on a residential building in the town of Shebekino early Sunday.
Ukrainian drones also damaged several other buildings in the city, he said.
Gladkov said eight more civilians were wounded in Ukrainian shelling.
