The statue of Anne Frank in Amsterdam, the Jewish teenager who died in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II and left behind a world-famous story (diary) about her imprisonment, is painted red with the inscription "Free Gaza".
A pro-Palestinian slogan is written at the base of the statue, while the young girl's hands are painted the same blood red color. This is the second time in less than a month that the ia statue, located in a park in the south of Amsterdam, has been the target of vandals.
The statue of Anne Frank was damaged on July 9, and the municipality then ordered increased protection of the place, installed a camera for video surveillance and night lighting.
The statue was vandalized again probably tonight.
"An investigation has been opened, there is currently no identified suspect," the police said.
Anti-Semitic incidents have increased around the world, especially in the Netherlands, since the beginning of the war in the Palestinian territory in the Gaza Strip, which was initiated by the attack of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023.
