Russian President Vladimir Putin announced today that the Russian army is fighting for the second day with Ukrainian forces that have invaded the southwestern Russian border province of Kursk.
The Defense Ministry said on Tuesday that up to 300 Ukrainian soldiers with 11 tanks and more than 20 other armored fighting vehicles crossed into Russia and suffered heavy losses, while Ukraine did not comment.
Putin called the incursion of Ukrainian forces across the border "a large-scale provocation" and announced a meeting with the leadership of the Army and the police.
"The Kyiv regime undertook another large-scale provocation and launched an indiscriminate shelling of civilian buildings, residential houses, and ambulances with various weapons," Putin said at a meeting with government officials.
Russian forces have previously been quick to repulse cross-border incursions.
The head of the Kursk region called on residents to donate blood because there are wounded.
It is possible for Moscow to send reservists to that area, which would weaken the Russian attack in Donetsk, Ukraine, and Ukrainian troops could advance.
