The YouTube video platform is unavailable in Russia, thousands of users announced on August 8.
Most of the user complaints were recorded from Moscow, St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg, according to the Downdetector site.
Russian lawmaker Alexander Hinshtein announced two weeks ago that in a few days the upload speed of YouTube videos in Russia would be reduced by 70 percent, saying that YouTube was "violating and ignoring the law with impunity."
In early July, YouTube blocked the channels of several Russian singers and artists because of their support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
A YouTube spokesperson said last week that they are aware of reports that some users were unable to access content in Russia, and that the reason was not a technical problem on their part, reports Reuters.
After Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, YouTube blocked a number of pro-Kremlin channels, while opposition media continued to have access.
