The Russian government imposed a ban on gasoline exports from September until the end of the year to ensure "stable conditions" on the domestic market after a sharp jump in prices.

As reported in Moscow, the government aims to stabilize oil prices and respond to demand with this measure at a time when maintenance work at oil refineries is planned.

According to AFP, the restrictions will not affect supplies that Russia makes under intergovernmental agreements, including to Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia.
Despite huge supplies of the fuel, Russia imposed a similar ban on diesel and gasoline exports last year as pump prices reduced the purchasing power of Russians already hit by a weakening ruble due to Western sanctions. Last year, Russia exported 43,9 million tons of gasoline.
