NATO could overrun Russia, which is no longer the power it was during the Soviet Union, the Lithuanian foreign minister said.
Speaking at the Globsec forum in Prague, Gabrielijus Landsbergis said that Russia cannot match NATO militarily, the Guardian reports.
"When we add up the number of soldiers, missiles, tanks and money, Russia is nowhere near the power it had during the Soviet Union, when it could rival NATO," he told the Kyiv Independent.
"In real military scenarios, it's incomparable. NATO could overrun Russia. But the Russians don't count on that. They rely on what they explain to themselves as democratic weakness, inability to make decisions, differences of opinion," added Landsbergis.
He also admitted that the states were caught because they "chose to be caught".
"Everyone who understands geopolitics, who knows Russia, knew this was going to happen. Not a single person in the Baltic was surprised. We were shocked by the ferocity of the attack, but we were not surprised," he said.
At the Globsec forum, Danish Prime Minister Matt Fredriksen also addressed the war in Ukraine. She said that there is no alternative to Ukraine's triumph over Russia and Vladimir Putin and that "we all" will lose if Moscow prevails.
"Those who do not support Ukraine adequately do not understand how dangerous the situation is," she added.
