Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Sirsky said the situation is "difficult" due to Russia's main offensive targeting eastern Ukraine, but that all necessary decisions are being made. Sirski did not give the exact location of the main Russian offensive, but earlier both he and President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russian forces were targeting the strategically important city of Pokrovsk.
"The situation is difficult because of the enemy's main attack. But all the necessary decisions at all levels are made without delay," Sirski announced on Telegram, as reported by Hina.
Sirski said last week that he had spent several days on the eastern front near Pokrovsk and described the fighting as "extremely heavy". Russia, which has seized parts of eastern Ukraine since the start of its invasion in February 2022, continues to advance in heavy fighting.
That progress continued after Ukraine suddenly invaded Russia's Kursk region on August 6, apparently with the aim of diverting Russian resources and strengthening Kiev's position in any future negotiations.
