A Russian drone violated Romania's airspace during an attack on neighboring Ukraine last night, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced today and called on Moscow to stop a possible escalation.
The statement said the incident occurred while Russia was attacking "civilian targets and port infrastructure" across the Danube in Ukraine. Romania then raised F-16 fighter jets to monitor the airspace.
Preliminary data indicate that there may be an "impact zone" in an uninhabited area near the Romanian village of Periprava, the Ministry said. It is added that the investigation is ongoing.
Since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Romania has several times found fragments of drones that crashed on its territory.
